In 1953-1954, preceding Harry Belafonte's success with his album Calypso released in 1956.

I know this at a faster paced stick fighting song on Trinidad and Tobago. It was also sung by my maternal grandmother.

The Jeffersons on the Pluto App, had me in stitches when they danced and sang to this. Love it! Around 6 minutes into Season 4, Episode 5, when friend Helen visits and talks about her friends/fam from the West Indies and they danced and sang to this chorus, and Florence the maid was clowning on them. What a time to live. 🥰

I got a ravaged Vestax QFO LE a year ago - was broken - now works - but cosmetically it’s in terrible condition. As though Vestax used some very poor material when they made these decks - the little casted standoffs have all but been snapped off right at their base. The holes where the screws hold the fader panels in place are all snapped as well. Maybe harsh environmental factors made this plastic stuff deteriorate or become too dry and brittle? So I’m ( slowly ) planning a sort of diy restoration - refab of this QFOLE’s shell. So many considerations to be made for every little detail. Maybe I get lucky and get my hands on a Controller one or OG QFO before I even get far with this one. I’m imagining that someone somewhere has some new, old stock of silver QFOs or better yet the Controller Ones…. After all I have a brand brand new PMC-05iii and 4 sets of Ortofon stylii waiting for the day I get new turntables!! THANKS for sharing!
